Abigail Pack, French horn
Dr. Abigail Pack, Professor of Horn at University of NC - Greensboro, native of Roanoke, Virginia, received her training from East Carolina University (BMA), University of Iowa (MM), and University of Wisconsin-Madison (DMA) where she was a Bolz Teaching Fellow. Before assuming her current position at UNCG in 2008 she was horn professor at James Madison University from 2001 to 2008. She has also been on faculty at Knox College in Galesburg, IL; Western State College in Gunnison, CO; and taught in the Gunnison Watershed School District. She has taught privately for over 25 years, hosts the annual North Carolina Horn Day, and maintains a blog for horn teachers, students and artists www.practicalpedagogy.org.
An avid symphony player, Dr. Pack has performed with the Barton Symphony Orchestra, Quad Cities Symphony Orchestra, Des Moines Symphony Orchestra, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival Orchestra, the Southwest Chamber Orchestra and the internationally esteemed Monarch Brass. She currently performs with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and regularly joins the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, Greensboro Symphony and Winston Salem Symphony as substitute utility horn. Other venues have included performances with the Iowa Brass Quintet, North Carolina Brass Band, Western Slope Brass Band, and Massanutten Brass Band.
Recent performance and presentation highlights include multiple clinics, presentations, and performances at the annual Southeast Horn Conference. Other performances and presentations include at the National Flute Association (Washington D.C. with the Montpelier Winds), the International Horn Symposium (University of Cape Town, South Africa, University of Alabama, Ithaca College), the International Midwest Band and Orchestra Conference (Chicago 2003 and 2008), the Kennedy Center of The Performing Arts (Washington), the International Double Reed Conference (Athens, GA), and as guest Clinician at the 2017 American Band College (Ashland, OR). She can be heard on the Centaur Record label.
