Voice Program in Germany

    • The voice program is intensive and unique. Vocal students will have the opportunity to specialize in opera or in bel canto style mixed chamber groups with art songs that they do not normally have a chance to study at home. Repertoire examples from the past include Barber's Dover Beach for baritone and string quartet, John Corrigliano's Three Irish Folksongs for soprano and flute, Handel: Part 2: No.3 of Gia risonar d'intorno al campidoglio io sento for bass singer, trumpet, double bass, and piano to name a few. Some voice students study arias, duets, or trios with singers accompanied by string quartet for their chamber music assignment. The beauty of their surroundings and cultural experience is ideal for artistic growth.

    • Each student receives two private lessons per week with an internationally-renowned artist faculty member.

    • All participants are preselected into chamber groups and assigned to partners and repertoire choices according to level, matched well in advance. Singers receive two fourty-five minute chamber coachings per week with an artist faculty member with their chamber group(s).

    • German for singers is a diction class that meets 10 times in the duration of the festival and covers topics on German diction as well as elements of the German language.

    • Italian for Singers is a diction class that meets 10 times in the duration of the festival and covers topics on Italian diction as well as elements of the Italian language. It is taught by a native Italian speaker. More info - List of Master Classes »

    • Christa Mayer, voice
This year in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, InterHarmony International Music Festival announces its first Outstanding Guest Vocalist, world-class mezzo soprano Christa Mayer. A native of Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Mayer has been an ensemble member of the Saxon State Opera in Dresden since 2001, where her interpretation of Erda in Das Rheingold and Siegfried brought her international recognition. Guest performances in recent years have brought her to opera houses in Berlin, Munich, Venice, Florence, Bilbao, Barcelona, Sevilla und Tokyo. In 2007, Mayer took part in the Ring Cycles of Valencia and Florence, and, in 2008, she made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival as Erda and Waltraute, where she has returned yearly since. On August 4, 2017, in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, she will give an open master class, at which students in the Vocal program will then be invited to perform. This rare opportunity to work personally with one of opera’s most acclaimed mezzos should not be missed.
